Best Friends For Life: Helping Homeless Pets

Best Friends for Life (BFFL) came to life on November 15th, 2013, by the two of us, Holly and Kathryn, two Moms who met through the love of one rescue dog (one was the foster, the other the adopter).  We created BFFL because we wanted to help pets living on the streets, and in the surrounding area of Main & Hastings, in Vancouver, BC, Canada, stay warm, safe and fed.

We asked ourselves, “How can we help these pets?” and our answer was to provide pet food, dog jackets/sweaters, leashes, collars, harnesses and kitty litter.  We have also collected, and distribute on a request only basis, dog brushes, combs, toys and specific items. We do this by accepting donations of gently used, or new items, at our donation bins, which we pick up with the help of a volunteer bi-weekly and distribute to those in need.

The Best Friends for Life program grew very quickly, and we are so grateful for the wonderful support by our followers and donors.  It is such a heartwarming experience to see an owner’s face light up when they know that we are there to help with any of their pets, and that we will be providing regular drop offs.  We do not judge, and our philosophy is, if they ask, they must need, no pets stomach will stay empty.

Someone once said…

Is it you or I who stumbled first? It does not matter. The one of us who finds the strength to get up first, must help the other.

Our goal is to offer free spring grooming for regular visitors and a fall dog jacket/sweater distribution event on top of our regular monthly distribution days.

We ask that you choose one of the following ways to show your support, and hope that you enjoy sharing this journey with us.

  • Tell a friend about our program
  • “Like” us on Facebook
  • “Share” one of our Facebook posts
  • Donate time, supplies or cash

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  Every little bit helps.
